Volatility is the story to manage, not chase

After a sharp, news-driven swing in tech in early November, the focus shifts to whether buyers defend recent lows, how yields move, and whether earnings breadth improves beyond mega-cap tech. See the full Weekly Outlook below for bull / base / bear cases.

Nasdaq 100 NDX

Tech-heavy • Growth

What to watch: trend vs. the 50- and 200-day averages, breadth inside tech, and whether NVDA / MSFT / AAPL move together or diverge.

S&P 500 SPX

Broad market • 500 leaders

What to watch: equal-weight vs. cap-weight strength, financials & healthcare participation, and reaction to CPI, jobs and Fed speakers.

02 — Watchlist

Magnificent Seven watchlist

Seven companies that move the indexes disproportionately. Use this as a research checklist — what each business does, and what to check before forming a view. Live quotes are in the ticker tape at the top and in the charts above (change the symbol).

03 — Sector dashboard

Sector heatmap & rotation dashboard

Green = strength on the day, red = weakness. Tile size reflects market weight in the S&P 500 heatmap below. Rotation matters: a rising index led by only one sector is more fragile than a rise shared across sectors.

Sector tiles above the heatmap explain what drives each sector. For live sector performance, read it directly from the heatmap colours and the sector ETFs (XLK, XLF, XLV, XLE, XLY, XLP, XLI, XLB, XLRE, XLC, XLU) in the chart tool.

04 — Market outlook

Weekly, monthly & yearly outlook

A framework, not a forecast guarantee. Each horizon has a base case, what would make it bullish, what would make it bearish, and what to check — so you can update your view as data arrives.

Base case

Choppy consolidation

After a volatile start to November, indexes try to stabilise. Watch whether dips attract buyers in Mag 7 without breadth collapsing, and whether volatility (VIX) eases day by day.

Bullish trigger

Breadth improves

More sectors turn green on the heatmap, financials and healthcare join tech, and indexes reclaim short-term averages on rising volume.

Bearish trigger

Failed bounce

Rallies fade quickly, defensives lead, yields spike, or a Mag 7 name breaks down on heavy volume and drags NDX with it.

This week's checklist

  • U.S. inflation / jobs prints and Fed speakers — check the calendar on the day.
  • Earnings reactions, not just results: guidance and capex comments move Mag 7 most.
  • Put/call and VIX from the Options section below before sizing any trade.
  • Your risk first: position size and stop plan written down before the open.

07 — Options sentiment

Call / put activity — research links

Options flow shows how traders are positioning, not what will happen. A put/call ratio above 1 means more puts than calls traded (often hedging); well below 1 means call-heavy speculation. Always read it with price and volatility.

Unusual Options Activity — Explained in action

A recent Barchart commentary walking through unusual NVDA, AT&T and Alphabet options after a Nasdaq rout — a good template for reading Vol/OI and expiries.

Read on Barchart ↗

How to read a print — checklist

  • Volume vs. open interest (Vol/OI > 5 = unusual)
  • Expiry: this week = speculation/hedge; months out = positioning
  • Premium size & whether bought at ask or sold at bid
  • Confirm with the underlying chart — never trade flow alone
Options risk: Options can expire worthless and leveraged positions can lose more than expected in fast markets. Put/call data is delayed on free tiers and does not reveal the trader's full position or intent (a bought put may be a hedge, not a bearish bet). Treat flow as a research lead, never as a signal to copy.
